TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Robert Vaden scored 23 points and Paul Delaney III added 20, and UAB rallied for a 64-61 victory over Santa Clara on Monday night in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

UAB (2-0) trailed by nine points with 14:50 left in the game, but the Blazers tied it at 56-56 on a 3-pointer by Delaney with 3 minutes to play. Vaden then hit a 10-footer as the shot clock expired to put UAB up 58-56, and the Blazers didn't trail again.

John Bryant had 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Broncos (1-1), and Perry Petty added 17 points.

There were fewer than 100 people in the seats in McKale Center when the game tipped off at 6 p.m. local time. Arizona hosted Florida Atlantic in the second game of the doubleheader.
